Kilimanjaro, or the “roof of Africa,” is a Tanzanian mountain that rises to an altitude of 6,000 meters. From the high mountain which nevertheless offers the possibility of walking to the summit, without ropes or technical climbing experience. If it is accessible for hikers, its lack of verticality is a real challenge for base jumpers.

Briton Tim Howell successfully completed the second wingsuit jump from Kilimanjaro. This extreme sport requires free falling from a cliff in order to have enough speed and altitude to be able to fly. However, the gentle slopes of Kilimanjaro do not offer the best conditions for flying from its summit.

Culminating at 5,895 meters, Kilimanjaro is the highest peak in Africa and the fourth of the seven highest peaks in the world.Image: shutterstock

It was from a 200m wall known as the Breach Wall that the athlete dived, as you can see in the video above.

“The difficulty was finding the exit. It’s not as simple as walking to the edge of a cliff and finding a suitable place to jump. The cliffs are very unstable and the edge is very complex, consisting of scree falls, rounded edges and unstable rocks. It was difficult to find an anchor point to rappel down to find a suitable spot. »

If Tim Howell hovers in second place on the performance of his predecessor, he nevertheless aims to break a record: he plans to jump from the Lhotse ridge in the Himalayas. He considers it to be the highest point on Earth where a wingsuit jump can be performed.
