Razer wants to thrill you in-game with its haptic feedback gaming cushion, but it will cost you an arm and a leg

Razer officially launches its Freyja haptic feedback cushion presented as a concept at the start of the year. The objective: to immerse yourself even more in your games, but not only that.

Razer

It was a concept that caught our eye at the start of the year at CES 2024 in Las Vegas: a haptic feedback cushion from Razer to make you feel your actions in game thanks to a multidirectional vibration system.

At the time, it was called the Esther project, a concept whose potential for realization on the market was not yet known. Obviously, the brand believes in it and has decided to officially launch the product under another name, Razer Freyja.

A gaming cushion for immersion

So yes, the name “gaming cushion” can make you smile and yet that is what the product offers. It’s actually a sort of overlay to add to your chair, from the seat to the back, made up of 16 configurable haptic actuators.

The different areas of the cushion will be able to vibrate according to the content, allowing players to feel “the direction, distance and intensity of the actions of their games”. The entire body is then involved with effects that can combine power or subtlety, whether localized or not.

Imagine feeling the power of a bullet impact or a magic spell, the vibrations of a collapsing building or even those of a racing car cockpit. The potential use cases are endless.

The Razer Freyja connects with a cable to the magnetic attachment and can adapt to any gaming chair, Razer or not.

French technology

Behind the Freyja, Sensa HD technology is used, the fruit of the work of the start-up Interhaptics bought by Razer in 2022. This is included in other products of the brand such as the brand new Kraken V4 Pro .

The compatibility of the cushion with games can then be implemented in two ways: natively thanks to the work (for Sensa HD games) of the developers or universally thanks to Audio to Haptic. In the latter case, the cushion analyzes the audio signal to transcribe adapted haptic feedback as far as possible.

Razer

The first supported games are Hogwart’s Legacy, Snowrunner, Final Fantasy XVI or the remake of Silent Hill 2. Other games should gradually join the list in the coming months. Razer also promises compatibility with films and music as well as precise settings to control the power level of the different haptic feedback.

Price and availability

The Razer Freyja is available on the Razer website and certain e-retailers for a price of 299 euros. The bill is steep and as this is a whole new category of products, players will certainly want to test before buying.
