At the time, it allowed you to quickly respond to an email using pre-built suggestions based on the content of the email. However, this feature was limited to brief responsesoften insufficient to respond to more complex situations.
Gemini offers smarter, more personalized responses in Gmail
The update announced on September 26, 2024 therefore introduces a improved version of smart replies in Gmail. From now on, Gemini takes into account the entire discussion thread to offer more complete and adapted messages. Users will see several suggestions appear at the bottom of their screen after initiating a response. Each of them will be based not only on the last email received, but also on the overall context of the conversation. By hovering over each proposal, it will be possible to see a preview of the complete response before sending or modifying it.
This feature saves a lot of time, especially for users who manage many emails. Thanks to Gemini, it becomes easier to respond accurately without having to manually write a long message. The update is currently being deployed for the subscribers Google Workspace with options like Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, and Google One AI Premium. The deployment is gradual, and may take up to 15 days to be visible on all accounts. To activate it, simply make sure that the “Smart features and personalization” option is activated in Gmail settings.
