Glasses to help dyslexics

Almost 10% of the world’s population is affected by dyslexic disorders. Several companies are launching into the design of tools to help those affected, including this French startup called Abeye which was present at the IFA 2024 show.

“Lexilens” is an innovation from the French company Abaye, a pair of glasses designed to help people with dyslexic disorders. Available for several years in , it is a reading assistance technology for people with difficulty reading, writing, or for those with dyscalculia problems.

Designed to be easy to use, the aim of the device is to help instantly after a small configuration on an application. The members of the company that we were able to meet during the IFA show explained to us the importance of the development of Healthtech and that today there are solutions to help people suffering from certain disorders.

Dyslexia is a disorder, an invisible handicap, which prevents and hinders reading, writing, arithmetic or even speech in a large number of people. It is estimated that between 8 and 10% of the world’s population are affected, this is a huge number. We have solutions, several solutions exist on the market to help them on a daily basis to be able to read and write with complete peace of mind.”, told us Rémy Frejaville, export manager at Abeye.

The manager also explained to us how their technology works: “Concretely, everything starts from a scientific discovery in 2017 by two French researchers from the University of . They discovered the anatomical origins of dyslexia; dyslexics have two dominant eyes. Unfortunately, having two dominant eyes causes what they call “internal visual clutter” which means that we have a surplus of information. We have mirror letters that overlap, we have lines that move, there are several symptoms that we resolve with Lexilens technology. The glasses are like two LCD screens that flash and filter a little, erasing this internal visual clutter. Each dyslexic person must in fact personally adjust the glasses, each person will have an adjustment to find and which will be different.”.

The team members told us that their goal now is to bring their technology to the rest of the world. After three years of marketing in France, Abeye is looking for foreign partners to distribute its innovation, the IFA show being a good opportunity to create new links with other companies. Lexilens glasses are already available on the company’s website as well as at certain distributors for the sum of €590.
