Xiaomi unveils its 14T (Pro) smartphones focused on night shooting

With the 14T and its more powerful brother, the 14T Pro, Xiaomi unveiled two interesting new mid-range smartphones in Berlin. According to the manufacturer, photography enthusiasts can especially expect improved night shots, while the devices are obviously also characterized by a touch of artificial intelligence.

The Xiaomi 14T is equipped with a large 6.67-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2,712 x 1,220 pixels, ensuring 1.5K quality. The refresh rate reaches 144 Hz for smooth scrolling and smooth images in any type of app. Practical: the display automatically adjusts color temperature and brightness depending on usage scenarios and time of day, and therefore not just based on the amount of ambient light.

The source of power is the MediaTek Dimensity 8300 Ultra, a new AI processor that is expected to offer up to 20 percent more computing power and even up to 60 percent higher GPU (graphics) performance.

Leica Summilux

The Xiaomi 14T features a triple camera system, with four focal lengths ranging from 15 to 100mm. The 50-megapixel main camera is equipped with a wide ƒ/1.7 aperture and a Leica Summilux lens, a combination that Xiaomi claims ensures highly detailed shots even in low light conditions . For night photography, the 14 T series also focuses about one and a half times faster than the competition in this category, according to Xiaomi. The island also includes a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle camera.

For video enthusiasts, the Xiaomi 14T can film in 4K quality at 30 frames per second. The smartphone’s movie mode defaults to an aspect ratio of 2.39:1 and to achieve more professional effects, features like Cinematic Blur and Rack Focus are present.

Xiaomi MIX Flip

In Berlin, we also had the pleasure of discovering the Xiaomi MIX Flip live for the first time. But as you have already been able to read a detailed article on this flip phone in Data News, we will limit ourselves here to the two models not yet revealed. What is new is the indicative price of the MIX Flip: the version with 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage space is sold at 1,299.99 euros.

The Xiaomi 14T Pro, the new high-end model of the T series, obviously has even more sophisticated optics. It also includes three cameras, but with a total of five focal lengths (from 15 to 120mm). The 50-megapixel main camera offers an f/1.6 aperture and is accompanied by a 1/1.31-inch Light Fusion 900 image sensor. According to the manufacturer, this results in a setup that captures up to 32 percent more light than its predecessor. This device can even record videos in 8K quality.

The T14 Pro is also superior to the entry-level model in other aspects. Under the hood in this case we find a MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ processor which, according to Xiaomi, gives the processor a 37 percent boost. The graphics chip (Immortalis-G720) even improves by 44 percent, which should prove beneficial both in games and in demanding AI applications.

To manage the heat released by all this computing power, Xiaomi has developed the 3D IceLoop system which combats overheating. Also worth mentioning is the Xiaomi 14T Pro’s Surge T1 Tuner, a separate chip that should ensure more stable connectivity and improved cellular performance.

Wireless charging

Another special feature of the 14T Pro is its metal casing, which is much more resistant to bending and other damage than that of the previous model. The exterior differences between the 14T and the 14T Pro are otherwise quite subtle. Both devices are available in the same three colors, namely Titan Black, Titan Blue and Titan Grey, although not all of these versions will be sold in Belgium. The T14 features a somewhat flat rear, while the Pro is slightly rounded. Both devices also feature an IP68 rating, meaning they are highly resistant to water and dust.

As for the battery, the Pro model is the first smartphone in the Xiaomi T series to support wireless charging, at a speed of 50 Watts. With a cable, it’s of course faster, and the 120 W HyperCharge guarantees a complete recharge in nineteen minutes (the charger is not supplied as standard). According to Xiaomi, the device can be used continuously for 15.7 hours. Just like the Pro version, the Xiaomi 14T also has a 5,000 mAh battery. It recharges a little slower, only by cable, with the 67W HyperCharge.

On the software side, both devices will offer Android updates for four years with, in addition, an additional year of security updates.

Digital interpreter

As befits a contemporary smartphone, the new Xiaomis also integrate the necessary AI capabilities. One of the most well-known gadgets is called the Circle to Search collaboration with Google. This allows users to instantly search for anything they see on their phone (by drawing a circle around it), without having to switch apps. Gemini is also included. This is Google’s intelligent AI assistant for help with writing emails, planning activities and more.

Circle to Search is available by default on new devices.

Another arsenal of tools will help you with translations (like AI Interpreter), to perform summaries and speech-to-text transcriptions (AI Notes and AI Recorder). There is also an assistant made of artificial intelligence during shooting. This is how AI Eraser Pro, as it is called, removes unwanted elements from photos, while AI Portrait generates ‘custom avatars’. At the time of writing this article, it was still unclear which gadgets would be immediately available on the Belgian market. However, certain tools – such as text summaries – would obviously only become really interesting for us if they could also master French and Dutch.

Price and availability

The Xiaomi 14T is available in Titan Black and Titan Gray. The device has 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of built-in storage space and will cost 649.90 euros. For the Xiaomi 14T Pro, available in Belgium only in Titan Black and with 12 GB/512 GB, you will pay 899.90 euros.
