September 2024

Place The Correspondence – 30 bis avenue Marcelin Berthelot, 38100

Climate change has a major impact on water resources and the water cycle. With 2 researchers from the Institute of Geosciences and the Environment, we will discuss this topic, which is both global and local, in the Grenoble basin.

Climate change has a major impact on water resources and the water cycle. Warming of the oceans, spectacular reduction of ice caps, forced acidification by absorption of CO2 released in excessive quantities, etc. We are here in Grenoble and more widely in the Alps the first spectators and we see our dear glaciers melting visibly.

Especially since in our region, global warming is occurring at least twice as fast as the global average. With 2 researchers from the Institute of Geosciences and the Environment, Geremy Panthou, hydro-climatologist, and Hélène Castebrunet, teacher-researcher specializing in urban hydrology, we will discuss this situation, starting from the global aspect of climate forcing, and its general impact, then zooming in on the regional and then local consequences. In the Grenoble basin, it will also be interesting to discuss the problem of water quality in connection with the industrial presence, which has been in the news for several months.
