What are the latest end-of-life smartphones from Xiaomi?

Xiaomi recently added six devices to its end-of-support (EOL) list. Since late August, the affected models have not been receiving any updates, whether security patches or new software versions.

End of support for six additional models

Among the devices joining the EOL club are the Xiaomi MIX 4, the Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro 5G tablet, the Xiaomi Pad 5, the POCO F3 GT and POCO F3 smartphones, as well as the Redmi K40, a particularly popular model in China.

This announcement follows a common trend at Xiaomi, where devices typically reach the end of their life cycle after just two to three years on the market. If these products continue to function normally, users will no longer benefit from software improvements or security patches, which could cause problems in the medium to long term.

The Xiaomi MIX 4, for example, had made an impression with its original design and high-level performance. Similarly, the Xiaomi Pad 5 range was appreciated for the quality of its screens and the power of its components. As for the POCO F3 and F3 GT, they had become essential for lovers of performance at a reasonable price. By including these models in the EOL list, Xiaomi is turning the page for these devices.

The discontinuation of software updates for these models could be a cause for concern for some users, especially regarding security risks. Without regular patches, smartphones and tablets become more vulnerable to threats. Security flaws discovered after the discontinuation of updates will no longer be patched, which could pose a risk to users’ personal data. Additionally, these devices will no longer benefit from the new features and performance optimizations that Xiaomi regularly rolls out to its newer devices.

For consumers, there are only two options left. They can continue to use their devices as they are, knowing that they may become obsolete over time. To compensate for the lack of new security patches, it is possible to install applications dedicated to data protection and threat detection. Although here too, you have to be very careful about what you install on your smartphone…

These users may also consider upgrading to a newer model to continue to benefit from enhanced security (and new hardware features). This is the simplest solution… but also the most expensive, of course!
