Former Rockstar Developer Says It’s Too Early To Know If GTA 6 Will Be Delayed

Rockstar Games has already confirmed that GTA 6’s release date is set for 2025, and during its most recent 2024 quarterly earnings call, Take-Two Interactive confirmed that the release window is set for “fall 2025.” However, a recent rumor has suggested something different.

This dubious report claimed that Grand Theft Auto 6 has been internally delayed until 2026. With this rumor sparking heated discussions among fans, a former Rockstar Games executive has spoken out on the matter. The ex-developer claims that it is too early to say whether GTA 6 will be delayed.

Former developer Obbe Vermeijobbe Vermeij recalls that Rockstar Games decided to delay the launch of GTA 4 “about four months before the original release date.” Vermeij meant to imply that if the team were to push back the release date of GTA 6, they wouldn’t know about it now.

This makes sense because, according to the previously shared release window, Grand Theft Auto 6 will still be in production a year away. So, considering the announcement of GTA 4’s delay, Rockstar won’t know whether to delay the upcoming game “until May” next year.

Interestingly, Vermeij didn’t completely ignore the possibility of a delay. The hype surrounding GTA 6 has been building since the launch of Grand Theft Auto 5. With the recent announcement of the PlayStation 5 Pro, fans are waiting to see how the mid-gen version of current consoles will handle this highly anticipated game (PS5 Slim available on Amazon).

Given all the anticipation, Vermeij believes Rockstar won’t release GTA 6 unless it’s “100% happy with it.” Hopefully, the game’s second trailer will give players a better idea of when the game will release.
