Netflix wants to sweeten the increases with new board games and cooperative games. But who asked him?
Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters announced that the popular streaming service would like to launch new gaming experiences included in the monthly subscription. “We view this launch as the successor to family board game night, or an evolution of what game shows once represented,” Peters said. This statement is accompanied by the announcement a few days ago of the company’s financial data, which revealed to the world the share of subscribers reached by Netflix (300 million) and the achievement of an excellent turnover in one quarter ($10 billion). All this accompanied by the arrival of new increases in subscription costs, as if prices were not already high compared to those offered by the competition. We talked about it here. To sweeten the pill, comes this kind of announcement which talks about the introduction of board games and cooperative games, which will enrich the catalog of titles already present and playable from smartphones as well as from browsers or televisions.

Along with these new features, other video games based on the Netflix original series will also arrive. It’s unclear when they’ll arrive, but if there was such a statement, it’s possible that Netflix has already been working on it for some time. This is all well and good, but is this really what users want? Knowing that the company is investing money in video games and group experiences rather than new original content? Why pay more for video games when you subscribe to a streaming service dedicated to films, TV series, etc.? ? Why not offer different ranges of subscriptions, whether they include video games or not, and leave the final choice to users? So many big questions to which we will never have an answer. And indeed, to be fair, given that subscriber numbers continue to grow despite increases and additional services that not everyone uses, Netflix may be right to continue its momentum.
