Fake Ryzen 7 9800X3, scams are increasing

The Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor is at the heart of a new fraud involving counterfeit chips. Fake models have infiltrated the supply chain, causing concern among consumers and retailers.

The information comes from different channels including the Chinese forum Chiphell. A report reveals a case where a modified Ryzen 7000 was disguised as a Ryzen 7 9800X3D model. Examination of the counterfeit chip highlights notable differences, such as a dark green substrate instead of a blue color used for the Ryzen 9000 family. This is not a first for this model. In November, fake chips were found on Amazon, sold at misleading prices with absurd descriptions. This new scam, however, is more elaborate.

Buyers are advised to be vigilant, especially on platforms like Amazon and eBay, where fraud can go unnoticed in the volume of products.

This situation is explained by the popularity of this Ryzen 7 9800X3D considered to be the processor of the moment for gamers. On this point AMD can have a smile with a relevant Ryzen 9000 family in the face of competition without forgetting the next Z2 Extreme intended to strengthen some of the best pocket computers. However, the company is struggling with its next-generation GPUs, the Radeon RX 9070 and 9070 XT, with RDNA 4 now scheduled for release in March.
