Just a few days ago, rumors suggested that the fourth-generation iPhone SE would launch as the iPhone 16e and be positioned as a cheaper alternative to the iPhone 16. MacRumors has learned from a supposedly reliable source that the iPhone 16e would be launched at the same time as version 18.3 of iOS.
After iOS 15.3, 16.3 and 17.3 released in January, iOS 18.3 could well be launched soon, since the beta version is already available. A January launch would be unusual for an iPhone, however, since all iPhone SEs launched to date have been in March or April. On the other hand, after Apple had to halt sales of the third-generation iPhone 14 and iPhone SE at the end of December due to the European Union’s USB mandate -C, the imminent launch of the iPhone 16e makes perfect sense.
The iPhone 16e is rumored to feature a 6.1-inch OLED display with a frame rate of just 60Hz, a 12MP selfie camera with Face ID, a single main camera of 48 MP on the back and the latest version of Apple A18. Compared to the more expensive iPhone 16, the iPhone 16e lacks the dedicated camera shutter button and 12 MP ultra-wide-angle camera, among others. According to MacRumors, the iPad 11 will also launch in January. The tablet should be equipped with a more modern processor and 8 GB of RAM in order to support Apple Intelligence.
