Based on the Blackwell architecture, the RTX 50 series has four models: the RTX 5070, 5070 Ti, 5080 and 5090. Nvidia promises a performance increase of 15 to 20% compared to the previous generation. These new cards are moving to RAMRAM GDDR7 faster than GDDR6X, PCIe gen 6 and DisplayPort 2.1b UHBR20.

The RTX 5090 is a power monster, with 21,760 CUDA cores, 32 GB of GDDR7 RAM and a consumption of 575 wattswatts. Nvidia also displays performance for artificial intelligence, i.e. 3,400 Tops (Tera operations per second). The RTX 5080 has 10,752 CUDA cores and 16 GB of GDDR7, for 1,800 Tops and a consumption of 360 watts. The RTX 5070 Ti has 8,960 CUDA cores and 16 GB of GDDR7, for 1,400 Tops and a consumption of 300 watts.

An entry-level card that lacks memory…

Big disappointment, however, for the RTX 5070, which only has 12 gigabytes of GDDR7 RAM. While this should be enough for current games, such a small amount of memory could become detrimental in the future and may pose a problem for those who wish to run an AI like Stable Diffusion or Llama on their machine. The card has 6,144 CUDA cores, for 1,000 Tops and a consumption of 250 watts.

Nvidia also presented at CES (Consumer Electronic Show) DLSS 4, this technology which allows the use of AI to increase the resolution and frame rate, making it possible to considerably increase the performance of graphics cardsgraphics cards. The very good news is that it will be partly compatible with older generations of RTX cards, including the RTX 20. According to the manufacturer, DLSS 4 would allow the RTX 5070 to obtain the same performance as an RTX 4090.

The RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 will be available from January 30, for 1,179 euros and 2,349 euros, respectively, compared to 1,469 euros for the RTX 4080 upon release, and 1,949 euros for the RTX 4090. A significant drop for the RTX 5080, but a considerable increase for the RTX 5090. The RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti will be released in February at a price of 649 euros and 884 euros respectively, a base of 10-15 euros compared to the previous generation.
