Google is taking a new step in the deployment of its artificial intelligence, which will soon follow us everywhere on Windows 11.
“GLIC”. It is not an onomatopoeia, but the acronym of Gemini Live in Chromethe code name under which we can already find Google’s AI voice assistant within its browser. A still very experimental version, which nevertheless holds great promise.
Google takes on Microsoft
As a reminder, Gemini Live is in a way Google’s answer to ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode. It is an advanced voice assistant, with a natural voice and pronunciation, promoting conversations and the exchange of ideas. In short: an ultra-advanced version of what the Google Assistant could have been. But how can these kinds of tools help us on the Internet?
According to Windows Latest’s findings, Gemini Live will not see its functionalities limited to web browsing, but would present itself as a real alternative to Copilot, Microsoft’s AI assistant.
Clearly, once the option is activated in Chrome, the user will be able to call Gemini from any screen of their computer using a keyboard shortcut. In doing so, a floating window will appear and allow you to converse with the artificial intelligence, ask it questions and even make it react to what is on the screen.
-A Chrome integration that questions
Windows Latest explains that this feature could be used to keep a side window dedicated to Gemini, exactly as Copilot allowed before the latest Windows 11 updates. But a question logically emerges: why hide this in a Chrome browser menu instead of launch a dedicated application on Windows 11?
So far, Gemini is available as an application on iOS and Android smartphones, but must be launched from the dedicated site on computer. If “GLIC” is indeed intended to appear everywhere and follow us as we use the machine, a separate application would logically be more functional.
However, the experimental nature of the feature may be the answer to this question. Google is currently conducting tests to test the reliability of its tool, which may take other forms as it develops.
