Dbrand, best known for its partnerships with influential content creators, posted three images on Twitter of what it presents as its first accessory for the Nintendo Switch 2. Given the intensification of leaks, console announcement could be imminent.
Nintendo has confirmed it: what will succeed the Switch will be announced before March 31, 2025. It remains to be seen when, while rumor sites expect a presentation of the famous Switch 2 every week. Some still predict an announcement before the end of the year, others think that Nintendo will wait until the last moment.
Since the beginning of December, pressure has intensified on the Japanese giant. In addition to supposed leaks of the product, some prop makers have decided to offer themselves free advertising on the back of Nintendo. Among them, Dbrand, which is nevertheless a renowned brand.
Dbrand swears: these are real images of the Nintendo Switch 2
On its site, Dbrand offers a form to inquire about the sale of its first case for Nintendo Switch 2. The accessories manufacturer, interviewed by Insider Gaming, affirms that the images published are not conceptual. It ensures that the design that we can see through the shell is really that of the Nintendo Switch 2.
Did Dbrand really release an image of the Switch 2? It is unlikely that Nintendo sent him the console in preview and that he betrayed his confidentiality contract.
On the other hand, it is highly possible that Dbrand has models faithful to reality, in order to design its own cases and market them as soon as the console is launched (like all accessories manufacturers before each new iPhone, for example). Why break the secret and publish everything now? No doubt out of resentment towards Nintendo, which perhaps refuses it an official partnership. The design of the Switch 2 is surely this, even if the Dbrand product cannot turn on.
The dimensions of the Nintendo Switch 2 revealed by Dbrand
In addition to the images, Dbrand, which claims to have been able to carry out a scan of a real Nintendo Switch 2, communicated to The Verge what it presents as the exact dimensions of the console. We discover a larger product than the previous Switch and Switch OLED, for an identical thickness (even if the Joy-Con should be more imposing):
Model | Width (mm) | Height (mm) | Thickness (mm) |
---|---|---|---|
Nintendo Switch | 239 (172 without Joy-Con) | 102 | 13.9 |
Nintendo Switch OLED | 242 | 102 | 13.9 |
Nintendo Switch 2 | 270 (200 without Joy-Con) | 116 | 14 |
What have we learned from the latest leaks?
The latest rumors agree on several aspects, such as the introduction of a new “C” button at the bottom of the home button. It will undoubtedly be used to carry out new actions, which are still unknown. The Joy-Con would also gain thickness, for a better grip (they would have larger buttons in portable mode). Finally, a second USB-C port is expected at the top of the console, undoubtedly for connecting accessories.
According to Dbrand, the new Joy-Cons attach magnetically, and no longer with a clicking system. A button allows them to be ejected.
Obviously, the Nintendo Switch 2 should also put appearance over power, with a much more capable chip than the one currently used today (which dates from 2015, an antique on a tech scale). Nothing says that Nintendo will announce it before the end of 2024, even if the multiplication of leaks is putting more and more pressure on it. Will there be anything left to discover on the day of the announcement?
