San Francisco (awp/afp) – Apple on Wednesday presented several updates to its generative artificial intelligence (AI) system, “Apple Intelligence”, which integrates ChatGPT functions into its applications, including the voice assistant Siri , on the iPhone.
Users of the Apple brand’s recent smartphones and tablets will have access to new tools to create fanciful emoticons in their image or improve their writing of messages, for example.
Those who own an iPhone 16 will be able to point their camera at their surroundings and ask the machine questions.
Apple unveiled Apple Intelligence in June and is now starting to roll it out, two years after OpenAI launched the generative AI wave with ChatGPT, which converses with users and produces content on demand.
In a notable change for the California-based company, which is very committed to data privacy, Apple has teamed up with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into certain functions and its Siri assistant.
Users of compatible devices thus have access to the AI model without leaving the Apple ecosystem.
The Cupertino group thus hopes to catch up with its Silicon Valley neighbors in generative AI, and with other smartphone manufacturers, such as Samsung and Google, which have already integrated similar AI functions into their Android handsets. .
Apple is initially rolling out the updates to six English-speaking countries, including the United States, Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom.
The company plans to add support for 11 more languages throughout the next year.
