Controversial image generator Aurora removed from X

A little tour and then it’s gone. Launched on the X network this weekend, Aurora will only have made an appearance for a few hours. Integrated with the Grok chatbot, which the social network recently began making accessible for free (with limitations for non-subscribers: ten prompts every two hours), this AI image generator was removed after showing its capabilities to create photorealistic images, although sometimes not perfect. “This is our internal image generation system. Still in beta version, but it will improve quickly,” said Elon Musk commenting on the publication of a user who had shared the image of a Tesla Cybertuck vehicle generated using this tool.

In the short time this controversial AI has come online, Aurora has demonstrated a marked absence of restrictions. TechCrunch, which was able to test it briefly, found that it prohibited the generation of nude images, but it allowed the creation of images depicting public or copyrighted figures, such as Mickey Mouse. Even more worrying, it did not prevent the creation of shocking images, such as the one showing the elected president of the United States, Donald Trump, with a bloody face, which was shared by the specialized site, or the singer Taylor Swift dressed as a Nazi…
