Fortnite enters a new competitive era with Frenzy
December 11, 2024 marks a key milestone for Battle Royale Fortnite from the American publisher Epic Games with the launch of Frenzy, a competitive mode in early access which is played in the first person and which recalls a certain Counter-Strike from Valve. This innovative mode pits two teams of five players against each other in strategic round-based clashes. Players are divided between attackers and defenders, each with well-defined objectives. Attackers must place a “vulnerability trigger” on one of the two sites, while defenders work to prevent them. With its intense and immersive rules, Frénésie promises a thrilling competition. The games change dynamics every 6 rounds, as the teams’ roles are reversed.
Gadgets with spectacular effects
To enrich the strategy, Frenzy introduces five unique gadgets: the proximity mine, the protective bubble, the recon grenade, the frag grenade and the repulsor grenade. Each gadget can swing the outcome of a round when used precisely. Players can keep two gadgets in their inventory and cannot trade or collect them. For example, the protective bubble provides temporary shelter for the team, while the reconnaissance grenade allows you to mark nearby enemies. This mechanic pushes players to think tactically and cooperate to maximize their effectiveness.
Ranked and unranked games: two distinct experiences
Frenzy mode Fortnite offers two types of games adapted to player preferences. Unranked games offer a casual experience where players who leave can be replaced. On the other hand, ranked games are aimed at a competitive audience. In these matches, leaving early results in rank penalties and temporary blocking of access to ranked games. Team performance determines rank gain or loss, adding additional tension to each clash. The matchmaking system is based on the average rank of groups, guaranteeing balanced confrontations.
Continuous evolution thanks to player feedback
At launch, Frenzy will include a map called “Megapolis 10” as well as a limited set of weapons and items. However, Epic Games is committed to adjusting the mode based on player feedback. With the planned addition of new maps, weapons and features, Frenzy will evolve to offer an ever richer experience adapted to the expectations of the community. This dialogue between developers and players reflects the desire to Fortnite to push its limits and maintain its status as an essential competitive game.
