• Jeep is working on a hybrid model that will replace the defunct Cherokee.
The Cherokee SUV bowed out at the end of 2023, leaving Jeep without a model in the most popular utility category on the market, that of compact products.
The brand has just confirmed that a model intended to replace the Cherokee is in preparation. At the Los Angeles Auto Show, Jeep boss Antonio Filosa confirmed that a vehicle would soon fill the void left by the Cherokee’s departure in 2025.
What he did not confirm was the use of the name Cherokee. However, earlier this year he mentioned that a product with a similar name was coming.
Another interesting thing, Antonio Filosa said that the next model will be equipped with a hybrid powertrain. It has not been said or confirmed whether the latter will offer a certain electric autonomy and bear the name 4xe. According to the Automotive News site, we would be entitled to a more traditional hybrid approach.
-So things will change at Jeep over the coming months. In addition to this Cherokee, the company is preparing a new Compass, while the all-electric Wagoneer S is about to debut. And that’s without counting the new Recon which is a highly anticipated product as an all-electric version with the same goals as a Wrangler, in terms of off-road capabilities.
And let’s not forget the company’s promise that an electric Jeep would be available starting at US$25,000 in the near future.
All this is interesting, especially at a time when things need to change positively at Stellantis. For a year and a half, the news has been rather gloomy. The arrival of new products, which always revive hopes, will do good.
