Forget Snapchat filters and say “Cheeeese”: here is THE ultimate selfie, the one that will literally propel you into orbit with the Earth in the background! The project by Mark Rober, former NASA engineer and famous YouTuber, supported by Google, T-Mobile and SpaceX even offers to immortalize your reel with personalized geolocation!
The first selfiesselfies from space are announced for 2025. This initiative, born in the mind of American YouTuber and engineer Mark Rober, will allow you to take a selfie with the Earth placed just behind you. For this project, Mark Rober joined forces with GoogleGoogle et TT-Mobile in order to soon put a satellite dedicated to this mission into orbit. Called “SAT GUS”, it will carry two cameras and two phones PixelPixel mounted on each side, all powered by solar energy.
This satellite should in theory be launched by SpaceX in January 2025 and placed in low orbit at around 600 kilometers altitude. He should start taking selfies a few months later.
The idea is to be able to take a selfie when the satellite is above your city. In reality, a photo will be taken of a smartphone displaying your selfie with the Earth in the background. This image is then sent directly to you on a “first-in, first-served” basis.

To register, you must go to the Space Selfie website. This operation is completely free, but to be able to claim such a selfie, you must first enter a code to obtain via the T-Life application for T-Mobile subscribers or via Google for those who have a Pixel or by registering on CrunchLabs, Mark Rober’s platform which offers engineering kits for children.
Once the code is entered, you must send a selfie (or a group photo or even that of your pet), the same one that will be displayed later in the space.
