Apple’s basketball emoji becomes a real pair of sneakers

An emoji that comes to life… This is the daring challenge taken by Jose Wong, artist and designer, who has just created the “Shoe 1”, a pair of sneakers directly inspired by Apple’s famous running shoe emoji.

Inspired itself by the “New Balance 574” historically worn by Steve Jobs, the creator of Apple, the emoji well known to iPhone users goes from virtual to real, and can now be part of your wardrobe, indicates The Verge.

Subtle references to the Apple universe

“La Shoe 1” is designed with high-end materials. According to its creator, the pair is made “from nubuck leather combined with mesh”, while “the sole and heel are made from lightweight EVA foam”.

Designer Jose Wong pushed the detail to the point of integrating subtle references to the Apple universe: the insole features an electronic pattern evoking an A (BCD) 5 processor, a direct nod to the brand’s mobile A5 chips . The packaging is also a tribute to Apple minimalism: a simple white insert bearing the words “Designed by Josewong in China”, which recalls the graphic codes of the Californian firm.

“Cultural icons capable of integrating into our daily lives”

To complete the outfit, the designer also gave life to other Apple emojis such as a cap with a pin or a pair of socks. With this unusual project, “the designer highlights the extent to which virtual elements, often perceived as innocuous, can become cultural icons capable of integrating into our daily lives,” indicates the Creapills website.

If you want to be tempted by the “Shoe 1”, pre-orders are already open on the Jose Wong website, for sizes ranging from 35 to 46. But be careful, you will still have to pay 219.90 dollars (i.e. 208 euros) to afford them…
