Launched in 2019, the fifth generation Toyota Supra caused a lot of discussion when it was released. At that time, the Japanese manufacturer was not yet inclined to invest as much money as today in its sports cars. So he was content to buy the chassis and engine of his Z4 from BMW in order to limit costs. Although the car benefited from an exclusive design and different tuning, in some respects it looked a lot like a “rebadged BMW”.
This “A90” Supra is reaching the end of its career, but Toyota has decided to improve it in two ways before it leaves for good. There Supra A90 Final Edition increases its level of performance to the maximum with a limited series of 300 examples inspired by the Supra GT4 racing car. Its 3.0-liter turbo in-line six-cylinder, developing 340 horsepower in the normal version, claims 435 horsepower and 570 Nm of torque thanks to a modified intake, a different catalyst (matched with Akrapovic silencers) and optimized mapping.
Add KW suspension with fully adjustable shock absorbers, firmed anti-roll bars, large body kit, lightweight 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels shod with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 and Brembo brakes reinforced and you get a road Supra that is a little closer to the racing GT4. The only difference is that there is a manual gearbox in it instead of the latter's automated transmission.
An improved Supra, too
As for the “normal” Supra, it will also benefit from technical improvements. Designated “Lightweight Evo” in the official press release, it modifies the settings of its controlled shock absorbers and reinforces all the joints of its suspensions. The management of the active rear differential is also revised, as are the steering and the size of the brakes.
In Europe, Toyota must open orders for these two new Supras from January 2025 but for the moment, we have no information for the French market. Here, the six-cylinder Supra currently starts at €69,600 and is entitled to a minimum €28,413 penalty for 2024.
