« I don’t forbid myself anything, and I work on impulse», confides to us the editor and founder of When Evening Comes Charlène Guinoiseau-Ferré. A sentence that sums up the essence of his project: total freedom, mixed with a passion for literature and psychology.
A first title won at auction
In January 2025, it will officially launch When Evening Comeson the market, with the publication of its first title: Margo has money problemsby Rufi Thorpe translated by Élisabeth Luc. “ I won this title at auction, at a time when Le Soir Venu was not completely finalized, against two giants», reveals the editor shyly. She explains: “ I sent a letter to the author, who chose to trust me ».
This first novel, Charlène Guinoiseau-Ferré readily describes it as “cynical and funny“. The author narrates the fall of a twenty-year-old young mother, ruined, who launches on OnlyFans to get by. “A few years ago, I would never have thought of publishing the story of a young mother who connected on OnlyFans», Slips the editor.
“The publishing market is cyclical”
And for good reason, after ten years spent at the Jouvence publishing house, Charlène Guinoiseau-Ferré has mainly focused on works on personal development and alternative medicine. “Those who see personal development as the world of care bears are wrong. Personally, I see each book on this subject as an outstretched hand“, she reports.
READ – With Impact, Hugo Publishing reinvents the thriller
With flagship titles in its catalog such asThe Four Toltec Agreementsby Miguel Ruiz and Janet Mills (trans. Olivier Clerc), the house has been following this line for 35 years. If the figures are rather good, due to a literary trend focused on the subject, the editor qualifies: “The publishing market operates cyclically. Jouvence, anchored in the sector by conviction, will not deviate from it. However, I felt the need for diversification, in particular to go beyond feel-good and explore themes more anchored in reality, with its ambivalences, which will also allow us to broaden our readership».
Register for the long term
Two birds with one stone, therefore, forWhen Evening Comeswhose choice of name is not left to chance. “It is the promise of a reading capable of keeping you awake until the end of the night, and with the idea of the night, the ambition to go in depth into the themes and into the exploration of the characters», relate-t-elle.
To guarantee this requirement, the publisher plans to publish eight titles per year, distributed by Dilisco in France, OLF in Switzerland, and Prologue in Canada, as for the works of Jouvence. “Our ambition is to be long-term by offering varied texts, ranging from poetic novels to humor, including free verse.“, she explains.
From the month of January, the texts by Charlène Guinoiseau-Ferré will enter bookstores, ready to offer a new experience to readers immersed in darkness, and carried by the love of words.
