Windows 11 24H2 responsible for new bugs on Dell and Asus PCs

The latest major update to Microsoft’s operating system is still being talked about because of its bugs. This time, Windows 11 24H2 prevents some Dell PCs from turning off and cuts the whistle on ASUS machines.

The problems continue for Microsoft with the 24H2 update of Windows 11. And this time, it is users of Dell and Asus machines who would be particularly concerned. After applying the update, shutting down or putting it to sleep on some Dell PCs no longer works. On the Asus side, Dolby Audio decoders would no longer be pre-installed, thus preventing PCs that support Dolby audio from outputting any sound.

Dell encryption blocks PCs from shutting down or sleeping

The first rather problematic bug concerns Dell PC users, and more particularly those using Dell encryption. Indeed, for users using Dell Encryption in version 11.10 or earlier, and who have installed the Windows 11 24H2 update, “the hibernation and shutdown functions no longer work as expected. The computer enters sleep mode instead of shutting down or hibernating,” Dell confirmed in a note posted on the support pages of its website.

For the moment, Microsoft has not made the decision to temporarily block the deployment of its update. On the Dell side, the company indicates that it has deployed a corrective update of its utility, now in version 11.10.1.

No more Dolby sound on Asus PCs after a clean install

With the 24H2 update of its operating system, Microsoft has stopped pre-installing Dolby audio codecs. The only problem is that the PCs of certain manufacturers have not prepared themselves sufficiently for this change. As a result, in the absence of these codecs, machines supporting Dolby Digital sound are no longer able to provide voice.

This is the case, for example, on certain Asus machines. The manufacturer has also just published a note on its website inviting users of the machines concerned to manually install Dolby Audio decoders after a clean installation of Windows 11 24H2. In the case of a simple upgrade from a version of Windows 11 prior to version 24H2, the Dolby audio decoders that were already installed remain installed.
