Sony’s most popular controller
From a technical point of view, the DualSense Edge is Sony’s most successful controller, but its prohibitive price does not make it more popular than the Sony DualSense, which remains the controller most favored by PS5 players. This controller takes up the aesthetic codes of the PS5 with its white and black livery and is a little gem of ergonomics with redesigned dimensions and a textured coating which make the grip more comfortable than with the last DualShock.
Sony has even secretly designed a V2 of the Sony DualSense, slightly more compact, but above all more durable. The first version had a battery life of 10 hours and here it goes to 12 hours, but these are the only changes to report. We still have the classic button configuration of PlayStation controllers with a new headphone/microphone jack duo as well as a button Create which allows you to take screenshots or videos of your gaming exploits and share them online.
PlayStation controllers were initially criticized because they did not open enough outside of the Sony ecosystem, the DualSense is a game changer. It is possible to use it wired with its USB-C cable or wirelessly using Bluetooth with a Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC, a Mac or an Android, iOS or iPadOS device. However, only a few games on the Steam platform are able to take advantage of its full potential, especially when it comes to immersive technologies.
These immersive technologies are adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. The first manage to perfectly transcribe in the game the pressure applied to it, we literally have our finger on the trigger of a firearm, the string of a bow or a brake pedal. As for the haptic feedback, these are much more precise vibrations than normal vibrations in order to give better tactile sensations and a more convincing immersion. A function which has caused a lot of ink to flow and which constituted a small revolution.
