Total War
After years of tumultuous development marked by the war in Ukraine, the highly anticipated STALKER 2: The Heart of Chornobyl will soon be released on Xbox and PC. The Ukrainian studio GSC Game World, forced to move to the Czech Republic, suffered heavy losses, including that of one of its employees, who fell in combat. Despite these challenges, the game is finally ready to see the light of day.
Russian authorities are considering completely banning STALKER 2: The Heart of Chornobyl on their territory. Although the game is not marketed directly in Russia, the authorities want to prevent any acquisition, even in digital version. This decision follows statements by Russian officials regarding the game as anti-Russian propaganda.
In a statement to the RIA Novosti news agency, Russian MP Anton Gorelki suggested that STALKER 2 could be banned in Russia. He raised the possibility of “severe measures” if the game was seen as “justifying terrorism” or as “extremist” and “anti-Russian” propaganda. These comments reveal the intention of the Russian authorities to censor any content deemed hostile.

Legal advisor Mikhail Mushailev warned that the acquisition of STALKER 2, including through backdoor means like a VPNcould be interpreted by the Russian authorities as an act of support for a 'hostile force'. According to him, this purchase could fall under anti-terrorism laws.
In an interview with the BBC, Evgeniy Kulik, producer of STALKER 2, highlighted the challenges faced by Ukrainian developers due to the Russian invasion. He recalled that many team members work under constant threat of violence. Despite this dramatic context, GSC Game World managed to finalize the game and offer players an immersive experience in the Zone.
French players will be able to enjoy STALKER 2: The Heart of Chornobyl upon its release on November 20. The game will be accessible on all platforms and will also be included in Xbox Game Pass.
