The watersheds have never experienced so much drought. According to last year’s indicator, we can conclude that the time when the world will face water problems is not so far away, this is a fact.
This was stated by Stefan Uhlenbrook, Director of the Office of Hydrology, Water and Cryosphere Services at the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) at a high-level roundtable on biodiversity , water and climate connectivity.
“Last year, about half of Earth’s water cycle was below or much below average. The temperature record has been broken every month for a year and a half. The planet has never been so hot before. This heat in the atmosphere dries up the rivers. We have seen record temperatures in the oceans. Rising temperatures in the oceans and atmosphere have led to more extreme precipitation. So we had a year characterized by very severe flooding. As a result, flooding occurred in some places. On the one hand, people were deprived of water and, on the other hand, they faced tragedies caused by water,” said Stefan Uhlenbrook.
