The Tiny11 project is evolving with now support for Windows 11 24H2. Developed by NTDEV, Tiny11 offers an ultra-lite version of Microsoft’s operating system. The goal is to significantly reduce the disk space required. It goes from 20 GB to 3 GB.
This initiative is a solution if you are looking for a faster Windows adapted to specific needs.
A simplified Windows 11
Tiny11 is available in two distinct versions: Tiny11 Builder et Tiny11 Core. The first is aimed at daily use, ideal for modest machines or machines not officially supported by Windows 11.
The second is even more minimalist. It is primarily aimed at developers and test environments, removing essential components like the Windows Component Store (WinSxS) and Windows Defender. Be careful because although this latest version pushes optimization to the extreme, it is not intended for classic use.
In detail Tiny11 removes pre-installed Microsoft applications (like Mail and Calendar), Edge browser (replaceable via winget), OneDrive and various multimedia components and rarely used support tools.
The version Core goes even further, removing Windows Update, Windows Recovery Environment, and the Windows Component Store. All this makes adding features or installing updates impossible.
The project is based on an open source PowerShell script available on GitHub. It goes through three essential stages
- Download the official Windows 11 ISO from the Microsoft website.
- the need to mount the latter via Windows File Explorer.
- downloading and running the Tiny11 script following the instructions.
To run the PowerShell script, remember to authorize its use with the following command:
Tiny11 Core stood out for its ability to run Windows 11 on unconventional devices like an iPhone 15 Pro for example. However, for daily use, Tiny11 Builder is recommended because it retains the essential functions of the OS. t
Some bugs remain, notably the occasional reappearance of certain applications like Outlook or Dev Home. ARM64 users might also encounter inconsequential error messages.
Before you start, it is advisable to make a complete backup of your data (cloning your system disk is the ideal solution).
