Apple is not about to abandon Beats, the audio brand acquired in 2014. At Cupertino, we intend to benefit from the aura of a brand whose products continue to invade music videos, TV series and even images of athletes in training. After renewing the iconic Beats headphones, the Solo 4, and updating the in-ear headphones, Solo Buds, Apple went looking in another drawer of its subsidiary. There she found a product that had been abandoned for almost two years, but which still enjoyed enormous success: the Pill. The portable speaker (Bluetooth) from Beats therefore returns to the forefront in a new version which could appeal to others.

As with other historic Beats products, the new version of the Pill does not constitute an aesthetic revolution. The design is quite close, if not almost similar to the first Pill of the name. And for good reason, aesthetics have been one of the main reasons for the success of Beats since the brand existed. The new version of the Pill is therefore based on lines known to all, even if they have been slightly modified here and there.

The same… apparently

On the other hand, the entire technical part of the speaker has been modified. And for good reason, already at its launch, the Pill was not one of the benchmarks of its kind in terms of audio quality. As proof, during its test in 2012 on 01net.com, the Pill barely obtained the average with a score of 2.5/5. Quite naturally, the new version presents completely different arguments. Starting with an audio part that changes completely and is more oriented towards bass. It now has a single woofer, but more imposing, associated with a tweeter. According to Beats, this new association should provide more precise sound, but above all 53% more powerful. Finally, the speakers have been tilted very slightly upwards in order to offer better spatialization. All these points will of course be addressed in our future test of the Pill.
Last detail, which is not one, the new Beats speaker now has a USB-C port for charging. This connection also allows it to be connected to a computer to transform it into a PC speaker.

On the autonomy side, Beats also announces great progress: up to 24 hours of continuous audio playback and fast charging which allows you to recover 2 hours of listening time in just 10 minutes. Dust and water resistant (IP67), the Pill can also be combined with other Pills for stereo operation. Finally, like many Apple products, it has the locate function, which allows you to find it quickly if you forget. Available in black, red or champagne, the new Beats Pill is sold for 169 euros. Its marketing is scheduled for August 6.
