Motorola has a plotter in its boxes. Named Moto Tag, it could arrive with the Razr 50.

Motorola is developing a tracking accessory similar to Apple’s AirTag. The object was spotted by MySmartPrice in the depths of the FCC, the American organization in charge of certifications.

Called Moto Tag, it has the model number XT2445-1. It is equipped with a 210 mAh battery (CR2032), a little smaller than that of an Apple AirTag (225 mAh). This offering one year of autonomy, we can fear that the Moto tag will be a little less efficient on this point.

Mesh operation?

The FCC sheet also indicates that it is Bluetooth LE and ultra wideband (UWB) compatible. Its operation should be similar to Samsung’s SmartTag and Apple’s AirTag. The latter use a network of smartphones and tablets of their respective brands to convey the positioning information of the Tag to its owner.

But here, we can wonder if it would also be relevant. Samsung and Apple are the biggest sellers of smartphones. Their installed base is therefore very substantial and relevant for tracers. Motorola has less than 5% market share, which is low.

This Moto Tag could be officially unveiled at the same time as the Razr 50 and 50 Ultra, foldable smartphones which are expected to be presented soon.
