Google Pay finally adds two new French banks

That's it, Caisse d'Épargne and Banque Populaire customers can now use Google Pay for their contactless payments. This major development by the BPCE group responds to strong demand from its customers, 22% of whom use an Android smartphone.

Until now, Caisse d'Épargne and Banque Populaire customers had to make do with Apple Pay for iPhone users or Samsung Pay for Galaxy owners, but they will now be able to opt for Google Pay. The abandonment of Paylib had left many Android customers without a mobile payment solution. Even if solutions existed, this situation is now over.

The deployment has been carried out discreetly in recent weeks, as evidenced by the updating of the general conditions of use of the two establishments. A notable turnaround, when we remember that in 2022, the Banque Populaire was still invoking “ security reasons » to justify its refusal to adopt Google Pay.

The BPCE group explains today that it has “ worked actively » with Google to ensure the service complies with its security standards. The company assures that only data strictly necessary for payments is collectedwithout sharing sensitive banking information.

To benefit from this new service, some technical conditions must be met. Customers must have a smartphone equipped with at least Android 9.0 and activate the Secur'Pass system in their banking application. Then, the procedure is quite simple:

  1. Download Google Wallet from the Play Store
  2. Add your bank card via the application by clicking on “ Add to Wallet “, Then ” Payment card »
  3. Scan or enter card information
  4. Validate activation via the banking application

Once configured, contactless payment is made by simply unlocking your phone and bringing it close to the payment terminal. A notification confirms each successful transaction.

This new compatibility should satisfy many customers who have been asking for this functionality for a long time, finally placing the BPCE group on the same level as its competitors in terms of mobile payment solutions.
