Upon its release in April 2024, Stellar Blade quickly attracted many comparisons to Nier Automata. Now, both games are poised to make those comparisons a reality.

Glory to Mankind

In 2017, Nier: Automata had marked players thanks to a gripping story, strong artistic direction and gameplay aided by the talents of Platinum Games. Strengthened by seeing its production reap numerous awards and become a cult game, Square Enix did not hesitate to capitalize on the new popularity of its license through numerous crossovers with other works. The universe of Nier: Automata will first appear in unique quests of Final Fantasy XIV, while 2B will join the roster of Soulcalibur VI in 2018 and Granblue Fantasy Versus : Rising in February 2024. This is without counting minor cameos, notably in the form of a costume, in Rainbow Six Siege, Fall Guys and others Naraka Bladepoint.

7 years later, the young studio Shift Up reveals itself to the world with its Stellar Bladea beat’em up with multiple inspirations but in which many players believed they saw something Nier: Automataparticularly in its representation of a devastated Earth and a heroine with the physique of a model who will try to save what can be saved. Exclusive to the Sony console, Stellar Blade was an undeniable success which helped to arouse public interest in the Chinese scene a few months before the release of Black Myth Wukong. However, it’s not over for Chinese developers since they occasionally add free additional content to their game, announced that they are working on a PC version and recently revealed their upcoming collaboration with the famous beat’em up from Square Enix.

China strikes back

Indeed, Sony and Shift Up have published the first trailer for the DLC in collaboration with Nier: Automata revealing the appearance of Emil, a character well known to fans, but also the possibility of playing 2B and A2. This DLC should be accompanied by an update allowing all players to benefit from the addition of a photo mode, 4 new costumes for Eve, the main character of the game, as well as a handful of new settings allowing you to best personalize your gaming experience.

This update, expected for November 20, should not mark the end of support for the game since the developers have already announced that they want to add DLC to the game before starting to develop a sequel. If no information has yet been given as to the direction of this sequel, there is no doubt that it is already eagerly awaited by players, while the Chinese video game scene is experiencing a sudden rising interest among Western audiences thanks to a series of releases crowned with exceptional success.
