this Nuki connected lock stands out

A ceiling seemed to have been reached in the field of connected locks, and here comes the Nuki Smart Lock Ultra. Compact and very stylish, it promises the best from Nuki, with quieter and faster operation.

Nuki connected locks no longer need to be presented and the Nuki Smart Lock 3.0 Pro and Pro 4.0 have more than impressed the editorial staff. Plus, it's not for nothing that they are in our guide to the best connected locks.

In 2024, Nuki is reaching a milestone by launching a next-gen version which amazed us during its presentation. And this above all thanks to a redesigned design as much as its mechanics, for more discretion from every point of view.

A button design that will be forgotten

Connected locks generally consist of a rotating head with a motor which drives the key and an outgrowth integrating the rest of the electronics and the battery. Nuki takes its already very recognizable design to remove the least aesthetic part and keep only the handle.

Indeed, the Nuki Smart Lock Ultra comes in the form of a cylinder 57 mm in diameter, 58 mm in height and 250 g. It is made of stainless steel, which looks great. In the center, a light halo backlit by LED indicates the status of the connected lock.

It is even possible to adapt the base in black or white to better match your interior. On the outside, the Smart Lock Ultra looks like a nice door handle, but you should know that it supports Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Matter and Thread. Added to this is a new design.

The silence of the latch

Forget the classic motorization that generally equips connected locks, including previous generations of Nuki products. The manufacturer takes inspiration here from the automotive industry by using the concept of brushless electric motors to gain efficiency, noise reduction and energy efficiency.

This made it possible to integrate the battery into such a small volume, while promising autonomy equivalent to that of older generations.

Big news, the arrival of three new modes:

  • Insane: Locks and unlocks a door in less than 1.5 seconds.
  • Standard: the operation then takes 2 seconds.
  • Gentle: the rotation time here adapts to the lock to generate as little noise as possible.

Compared to the previous generation, the Smart Lock 4 Pro, Insane mode is, according to the manufacturer, 3.4 times faster, Standard mode is 2.6 times faster, and even Gentle mode is said to be 50% faster.

Installation and autonomy

We do not yet have information on the fixing system, but it should not differ much from those already offered by the brand. It will be possible to recharge the Lock Ultra via a backup battery with a magnetic charging cable supplied with it.

It will take two hours for a quick recharge, then offering autonomy of several months, without further details.

Nuki also offers a new premium universal cylinder for simplified installation on non-compatible locks.

If you replace an existing Nuki lock with the Ultra version, you will benefit from automatic data migration.

Availability and price

The Nuki Smart Lock Ultra will be available from December at a price of 349 euros, and the Nuki Universal Cylinder at 99 euros.
