Deciphering learning methods in adulthood: the lessons of Stella Cambrone, lecturer in language sciences at the University of Franche-Comté.

For Stella Cambrone, the writing of this book devoted to learning methods at…ge adult aims to help those who want to excel in their professional and/or personal projects. What fueled his reflection throughout the book were his numerous international experiences in different countries (Brazil, Canada, Cyprus, Colombia, Dominica, United States, Italy, Ireland, Seychelles, Morocco, Mauritania, United Kingdom, Saint Lucia, Singapore, among others) and with a diverse and varied adult audience (in initial and continuing education, in professional retraining, in preparation for competitions and exams, in search of professional guidance) .

Having encountered difficulties during her educational journey, she made it her mission to understand the mechanisms of learning and to offer practical solutions for adults facing the same challenges.

It is still possible to learn (differently)!

The main message of this book is clear: it is still possible to learn differently, and each individual can discover their own learning method depending on the professional or personal objective sought. The book is divided into ten stages, each made up of five separate sheets which can be read independently of each other. Each of the stages ends with an eight-question quiz with answers.

Thus, Stella Cambrone guides readers through a journey of self-discovery, helping them to unleash their full potential in all aspects of their lives. There are steps such as “Taking stock of what motivates you to learn”, “Understanding your brain to learn effectively”, “Varying your strategies for memorizing information”, “Developing different forms of intelligence”, or again, “Discover the main factors of successful learning according to neuroscience” and “Move from the desire to learn to the pleasure of learning”.

But what are the main difficulties that adults face when trying to learn new knowledge, skills and attitudes? According to Stella Cambrone, one of the main challenges lies in the lack of awareness of one’s own way of learning. Too often, adults try to approach all skills in the same way, without taking into account their preferred learning methods.

Learning to relearn: a concrete and structured method

To answer this, Stella Cambrone insists on the importance of feeling the need to learn and adopting a learner posture. It also highlights the importance of quickly putting new skills, abilities and attitudes acquired. These learning strategies facilitate the information memorization phase.

Other strategies like white sheet method stands out for its simplicity and effectiveness. By reciting the information learned on a blank sheet of paper, adults can assess their understanding and identify gaps that need to be filled. Likewise, the loci method, often used in the dramatic arts, offers a creative approach based on the association of images. It’s about associating something you want to remember with a familiar place. In her book, Stella Cambrone offers instructions on how to use these methods for different types of learning.

For sustainable and effective learning without wasting time, adult learners prefer an approach based on their experience and their personal and professional objectives. According to Ms. Cambrone, he needs immediate and concrete results. This is where all the complexity of adult training – a point she addresses on page 13 of the book based on the seven principles of an adult in a learning situation (Actertot.org platform, 2017).
