11 presets to adopt

The Leica LUX application is like many other apps dedicated to smartphone photography. At launch, you are automatically offered to choose from a selection of iconic lenses (Summilux-M 35mm, Noctilux-M 50mm, etc.) which give you access to advanced settings. Aperture, shutter speed, ISO sensitivity… The program gives us control to obtain the desired image.

Of course, an automatic mode, as simple as the iPhone’s native Camera application, is also available. Here, simply choose a style, an image preset and capture your subject without asking any questions.

Proposed in the format freemium, Leica LUX offers five free presets that can be used as desired. To unlock all 11 profiles, you must pay a subscription of €6.99 per month or €69.99 per year.

Mixed results

The Verge was able to try Leica’s application before its release and its verdict does not quite live up to the brand’s enthusiasm. Concretely, the application ultimately does not offer much other than a collection of filters, like many other apps before it – and sometimes for free.

One of the particularities of this app is nevertheless the virtualization of objectives which we talked about above. Thanks to this, even smartphones without Portrait mode can obtain more or less successful bokeh depending on the light conditions.

The journalist also points out that many of the Leica LUX presets were previously available in the Leica Fotos application.
