AMD can easily trumpet that it holds the “king of video games”. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D actually does what it was designed to do: dominate the former master of the discipline head and shoulders. But the crown does not change teams, since the title belonged to the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, already from AMD.
The 9800X3D further improves the video game scores of this former champion, but above all it is more balanced than its ancestor and provides more advanced application performance, for a product able to fit more scenarios. Problem is, this comes at the cost of consumption which will surprise no one given the maintenance of 5.2 GHz on all cores, but which significantly reduces energy efficiency compared to the 7800X3D.
The fact remains that the comparison is no longer relevant, the 7800X3D has disappeared from the shelves, an end of life desired by AMD, which refused a fratricidal duel, but which will make people cringe. Indeed, the 7800X3D was 380 euros at the start of the summer, while the 9800X3D should exceed 530 euros. However, it's another “brother” that could cut corners: more robust in applications, the 9900X is less expensive, and we know that in video games, the difference will be made on the graphics card. It’s up to you…
