Nintendo Switch 2 – backwards compatibility is official!

Good news! We start this Wednesday morning with certainly the most anticipated news of recent months. The president of the Nintendo group has announced that Nintendo Switch games will be backward compatible with the future console. That’s not all, the Online will be back on the “Nintendo Switch 2”. More information will be given later. Here is the press release posted on social networks.

This is Shuntaro Furukawa. At today’s Corporate Policy Briefing, we announced that Nintendo Switch software will also be playable on the successor to the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo Switch Online will also be available on the successor to the Nintendo Switch. Further information on the Nintendo Switch successor, including its compatibility with Nintendo Switch, will be announced at a later date.

As a reminder, the red giant of gaming plans to unveil its “Nintendo Switch 2” to us by the end of March 2025. Difficult to say if this will be before or after the transition to next year.

As a reminder, we don’t know anything about it, at least officially. Neither power, nor design and even less the games which are planned to be present at launch. Anyway, in 2025 we will have all the details and certainly the machine in stores.
