Recently launched, the Fenix 8 already sets the bar very high with a maximum price of €1,300, but the outdoor watch has found something stronger than it: the Marq Adventurer (Gen 2). Luxury range from Garmin, this watch raises the stakes to €3,250. It then becomes the most expensive watch offered by Garmin.

To justify this price, Garmin chooses a luxury material for the case: Damascus steel – or damask steel. This material, obtained by successive welding of layers of steel, is known for its impact resistance. It is also widely used in the field of cutlery and, above all, to make Japanese kitchen knives. To spot it, you have to pay attention to the wavy patterns on its surface, specific to Damascus steel. This material then replaces grade 5 titanium, making up the previous version.

A watch that is zealous?

In addition to this aesthetic novelty, the Marq Adventurer (Gen 2) recycles already well-known characteristics of the Fenix and Epix (Gen 2). Above all, it is even less well equipped than some of these versions. It loses the diving functions, the new Garmin interface and speaker of the Fenix 8, the Elevate Gen 5 heart rate sensor of the Fenix 7 Pro and the Epix Epix (Gen 2), just like the flashlight of the latter.

In addition, this Marq Adventurer (Gen 2) features the 360° compass engraved on its bezel, as on the grade 5 titanium version. Indeed, each Marq has its own specificity. If the Adventurer targets athletes eager for outdoor activities – such as trail running, hiking or even climbing – the Captain is recommended for sailors, thanks to its regatta countdown. The Aviator has several features specific to aviation, while the Golfer has nearly 42,000 pre-recorded golf courses.

Seen from the inside, the Garmin Marq Adventurer (Gen 2) mostly looks like a Fenix or an Epix.

The Garmin proudly displays its Amoled touch screen and sapphire crystal glass. The bracelet is made of both FKM rubber and leather, to better resist sweat.

The luxury smartwatch should accompany the user for 16 days before depleting its battery and 6 days if Always-on mode is activated – when the screen is permanently on.

With so few new features and characteristics similar to other watches from the American manufacturer, the question of the relevance of the Marq Adventurer (Gen 2) obviously arises; especially given its incredible price.
