Presented last summer by Microsoft, the Recall function of Windows 11 has been postponed again. One of the flagship features of the Copilot+ line of Windows PCs designed for artificial intelligence has raised many concerns about user privacy. Faced with concerns, Microsoft had already postponed its launch to June and August and has just done so again. It will finally be launched by December. As a reminder, this is an AI-based feature that records and chronologically organizes all activities on the PC (apps used, websites visited, documents opened, etc.) by taking screenshots at intervals regular. It is designed to make it easier to find information or past actions using keywords or natural language descriptions.
“We are committed to providing a secure and reliable experience with Recall. To ensure these important updates are delivered well, we are taking the time to refine the experience before offering it in preview to Windows Insiders users,” explained one of the Microsoft managers to The Verge .
The specialist site reports that Microsoft once again clarified at the start of the week that Recall will not be activated by default on Copilot+ PCs. This will be an optional option that can be removed entirely. Microsoft ensures that all data recorded by Recall is stored locally and encrypted on the device. Additionally, the only way to access it requires authentication through Windows Hello technology (facial recognition, fingerprint or PIN code).
