“He said to me: ‘Give the money!’ At first I thought it was a joke.” However, the 78-year-old man, hidden behind a Halloween mask, was not joking when he threatened and attacked the owner of a car garage in Walenstadt (SG) last Wednesday. Incognito thanks to his flesh-colored mask which made it seem like another face, the septuagenarian entered the establishment shortly after 6 p.m. He wore a black jacket and disposable rubber gloves.

According to the mechanic, the man who threatened him also held a wooden stick in one hand and an electroshock device in the other. “I told him that I didn’t like this kind of joke,” relates the one who did not understand who could want to harm him and why. The latter explains that it was when the septuagenarian tried to hit him with the electroshock device that he understood that the situation was becoming serious. “I raised my hands and pushed him away slightly. He then fled.” No loot, and behind the wheel of a black Volvo, parked across the street.

Neither one nor two, the owner followed him, hoping to at least be able to photograph the car, or even the criminal’s license plate. “At the time, I wasn’t afraid.” The police eventually caught the alleged perpetrator of the attack after an intensive investigation. He will be reported to the Public Prosecutor’s Office. Since then, the mechanic can’t believe it: “I’m surprised that an old man could do such a thing.” But “why did he want the money?” and “why me?”, for the moment, his questions remain unanswered.
