After more than a decade of development, the developers of CD Projekt Red can finally turn the page on Cyberpunk 2077: none of them are anymore involved in the launched project presented for the first time in 2012.

An excessive wait and a chaotic launch then redemption for Cyberpunk 2077

When Cyberpunk 2077 was initially announced in 2012, expectations were colossal. Gamers around the world were eagerly awaiting what promised to be a revolutionary experience in the world of video games. When it launched in December 2020, however, the game was met with a wave of criticism due to numerous bugs and performance issues, particularly on previous generation consoles.. This situation led to massive refunds and a fall in the value of CD Projekt Red shares.

Despite this chaotic start, the studio did not give up. The developers have been working tirelessly to fix issues, improve game stability, and add additional content. Update 2.0 and the Phantom Liberty expansion are crucial steps in this rehabilitation process. These additions not only fixed many bugs, but also enriched the gaming experience with new features and improvements.

Update 2.0, for example, introduced significant changes to gameplay mechanics, such as an overhaul of the skill system and improved enemy AI. The Phantom Liberty expansion offered players a captivating new narrative, featuring charismatic characters (including the one played by Idris Elba) and immersive environments. Thanks to these efforts, Cyberpunk 2077 has gradually won back the hearts of many players and critics.

More developers mobilized on Cyberpunk 2077

The announcement of the cessation of further development for Cyberpunk 2077 does not mean the end of the adventures for CD Projekt Red. We already know that the studio is working on a new project, entitled Orion, set in the universe of Cyberpunk 2077. At the same time, the Polish studio is also working on a new saga in the universe of The Witcher with the project Polaris. There are even 400 people involved, as evidenced by the various financial results of CD Projekt:

The end of the development of Cyberpunk 2077 is ultimately more than a page turning: it’s an entire story that comes to an end. A story which now has a before and an after that we will follow with interest.
