Fans of celestial light shows were delighted during the past week. While an exceptional solar storm hit the Earth, causing the Northern Lights visible in , the “comet of the century” also made its appearance in the firmament.

Many Internet users and observers were able to capture images of this comet in the French sky.

Visible to the naked eye in the sky since October 12, Tsuchinshan-ATLAS is not expected to come close to Earth any time soon, not before 80,000 years according to some scientists.

If this comet arouses so much interest, it is in particular because of its impressive size and luminosity. Made of ice, rock and dust, it was discovered in January 2023.

Visible for around ten days, it can be observed at sunset, where you will have to look towards the horizon, in the direction of the star. If the weather is clear, a bright spot will be clearly visible and it may be possible to see what is called its hair, the nebulous envelope around its core, formed when it passes close to the sun.
