Scammers better watch out! Among the latest innovations in artificial intelligence presented at its annual Google I/O conference on Tuesday, Google unveiled a system for detecting and alerting fraudulent telephone calls, which continue to multiply. Leveraging Gemini Nano, its lightest AI model that does not require an internet connection, this new feature is capable of analyzing phone scams in real time. During its demonstration, Google took the example of a call from a fake banker trying to scam a potential victim by asking for personal information such as a password or PIN code. When the tool detects a suspicious call, it displays an alert on the smartphone prompting the user to end the phone call.

Integrated into the Android 15 mobile system, this intelligent filter will be deployed later this year on Google’s Pixel 8 and Samsung’s Galaxy S24 smartphones.

As the system runs locally on the device, calls are not intended to be processed or stored on remote servers. “Your conversations remain private,” assures Google on the X network.
