Smartphones in hand, a hunt for knowledge on the green belt in Nice

On your smartphones, ready… go! Simply download the free Street Science app, developed by the Pandaroo agency, to embark on a treasure hunt unlike any other. In Pokémon Go mode, the eleven images that were scattered along the green flow reveal, once scanned, objects in 3D. A walk in augmented reality which aims above all to increase the knowledge of the general public. Starting with schoolchildren who, every Wednesday, will now be able to walk this scientific trail.

Riviera laboratories in the spotlight

“The objective is to raise awareness through a somewhat modern tool”deciphers Anne-Sophie Coldefy, vice-president of Sciences and Society at Côte d’Azur University. Its president, Jeanick Brisswalter, recalls that “behind the development of our phones, there are five or six Nobel Prize winners.” The Côte d’Azur, whose university is labeled Idex (pole of excellence), is also home to talented researchers. Each 3D image of this hunt for knowledge actually refers to work carried out in the department’s laboratories, whether in partnership with the CNRS, the Observatory or even Inrae.

Particularly promising, all of these programs are also funded by the National Research Agency. They touch on fields as varied as the quantum vortex, astrophysics, biology and even history. Parallel worlds, often unknown to the larger world. Establishing bridges between science and everyday life, to give rise to vocations, such is the objective of this new fun activity that the Paillon promenade now offers. A hunt for knowledge which hopes to be enriched with the upcoming extension of the green belt.
