SHAWINIGAN. For several years, the kindergarten children in Claire Vandramini’s class from the École des Bâtisseurs have visited the residents of Résidence Grand-Mère during various celebrations in order to exchange ideas and brighten the hearts of the elders.

Ms. Vandramini’s kindergarten class also won second regional place in the J’ose entreprise competition for their “Bingo for young and old” project.

“The children made Bingo cards representing the holidays of Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter, and each child was paired with a resident. Between games of Bingo, the children sing little rhymes and songs for the residents. Then during dinner, it’s time for a little chat. These are beautiful, magical moments to hear young people and residents tell each other lots of things,” expresses the teacher.

“Through these small gestures, students break the feeling of loneliness and isolation that some residents experience. The presence of young children brings them great comfort,” adds the director of the Résidence Grand-Mère Pierre La Haye.

An end-of-year show will be presented by kindergarten students at the Cité de l’énergie. In addition to parents, residents of the residence will be on site to attend the show.
