Meiyume and Eastman unveil transparent PET perfume cap

Developed through a partnership between Meiyume and Eastman, the new Crystal Halo Cap draws on the expertise of both companies in product design, materials technology and engineering. It follows Clear Crystal Case, a transparent single-material recyclable PET case launched in May.

A transparent PET cover

Crystal Halo Cap est a two-component cover which combines the crystal transparency has practical advantages, including compatibility with most perfumes, environmental friendliness and affordability. Its thick-walled design offers the clarity and elegance that brands expect from premium materials like ionomer resins (like Surlyn).

But what really makes the Crystal Halo Cap special is its innovative use of PET. Indeed, Meiyume and Eastman have succeeded in retaining the aesthetic qualities of ionomer resins while capitalizing on the advantages of PET in terms of cost and durability.

« In the ever-changing world of beauty and fragrance, the quest for packaging that is both unique and environmentally friendly has never been more crucial. As brands face the challenge of combining elegance and environmental responsibility, the Crystal Halo Cap emerges as a shining example of what is possible », Underlines Meiyume in a press release.

Reduced carbon footprint

According to Eastman and Meiyume, the Crystal Halo Cap is a real leap forward in the field of prestige packaging and it has the potential to be a game-changer within the industry.

First, it’s made from PET, a resin that has a lower carbon footprint than Surlyn and is easily recyclable. Depending on brand requirements, it can also contain up to 100% PCR material obtained by molecular recycling.

Next, unlike many other caps, Crystal Halo Cap uses mechanical assembly instead of glue, making it truly single-material.

Additionally, compared to ionomer resins (like Surlyn), PET is not only more environmentally friendly, but also more affordable.

Finally, when it comes to aesthetics, Meiyume’s creative team overcame a significant technical challenge by achieving crystal clear transparency with PET. The two-component cover allows for a wide range of customization options. Brands can tint the PET, play with color combinations between the liner and outer layer, and even modify the shape.

Extensive quality testing

To ensure that the new hood meets the high standards of the perfume industry, rigorous testing has been carried out.

Compatibility with perfumes has been tested on ten different formulas. The Crystal Halo Cap passed testing in eight cases, presenting itself as a reliable alternative to traditional materials in most cases.

According to Meiyume, the hood also showed its ability to withstand daily use by passing drop tests from a height of one meter. While extensive soaking and aging tests showed no signs of crystallization, color change, shrinkage or degradation of cap opening force.

For those who did not see it in Monaco, Meiyume will present this innovation at Cosmopack Asia in Hong Kong, November 12 to 14, 2024.
