With an update to the Windows 11 operating system, Microsoft began implementing advertising in the Start menu. These ads are subtle and blend into recommendations. So, we think we can use an application to realize that it is an ad. We explain to you how to remove and deactivate all these advertisements.
We can never repeat it enough, it is essential to update our devices.
Updates allow you to download security patches in order to plug potential vulnerabilities.
But updates can also bring a lot of new features.
Some are pleasant and practical. Others can be downright tiring unfortunately…
Advertisements disguised as recommendations
During the month of April 2024, Microsoft deployed an update for the Windows 11 operating system. This update is named: KB5036980.
In the new features of this update, we can read:
New ! The Recommended section of the Start menu displays some apps from the Microsoft Store. These apps come from a small group of selected developers. This will help you discover some of the great apps available.
Unless we install this update (or another more recent one), we find ourselves seeing applications in the start menu.
The problem is that these are not necessarily applications that we have on our computer.
For example, we can have an Adobe Photoshop ad that will appear as if we had the software in our computer.
However, if we click on it, we will be redirected to the Microsoft Store to obtain it.
So, one can become a bit mixed among legitimate apps that one owns or app ads.
How to remove and block ads on Windows 11?
Fortunately, Microsoft offers the possibility of deactivating these famous “recommendations”.
So, to remove advertising from the menu: Start on Windows 11, you must:
- Click on the menu: To start up
- Open them settings
- Go to the tab: Personalization
- Select option: To start up
- Uncheck the option: Show recommendations for tips, shortcuts, new apps, and more.
Once the option is deactivated, we will not see recommendations with applications that we do not have.
