designer televisions that look like paintings to compete with the Samsung The Frame

Currently, when we talk about integrating a television into a home, we necessarily think of Samsung’s The Frame models. They offer an aesthetic solution to prevent us from seeing a large black screen when they are turned off. Soon, they will compete with Canvas TVs designed by the Hisense brand. These models will soon be available on the market, starting at around €1000.

During the IFA show in Berlin 2023, then at the CES in Las Vegas in January 2024, Hisense exhibited televisions sporting a somewhat particular design, similar to that of Samsung’s The Frame models. The latter offer a special panel and frame that allows them to pass for paintings when they are not used to watch a film, series or TV program. They then display images of paintings or works of art, for example.
Noting the success of these models, Hisense decided to develop its own televisions/boards. Called Canvas TV, these can be hung on the wall or installed on stands for freer placement in the living room or any other room.

Hisense TV boards to display works of art

At the IFA 2023 show, Hisense told us it was working on 55- and 65-inch models. The brand also told us that the frames could be changed easily, thanks to a magnetic system. As release approaches, it appears that a “teak”-look frame will be delivered by default, but that it will be possible to purchase white or black frames at retail. In addition, the QLED panel benefits from specific treatment in order to give the appearance closest to a painting when the TV switches to “artistic” mode (already present within the Vidaa system used by the brand’s TVs). ).
This layer, called “Hi-Matte” (with a play on words, a contraction of the Hisense brand and the term “matte”), would not be affected by ambient light. A brightness sensor (also ambient) will allow the television to automatically adapt to different conditions depending on whether you enjoy the works on a sunny afternoon or in the evening in the dark.
You can display preloaded works of art available for free or, if you prefer, include your own photos.

The television would benefit from a refresh rate of 144 Hz. The brand has not yet communicated on compatibility with HDR10+ and/or Dolby Vision formats, knowing however that for its “classic” TV models, it offers both . In addition, we could count on low lag time and optimization technologies for games as well as the Google TV system at the controls.
The first televisions in Hisense’s designer Canvas TV range would be available during the summer. It is rumored that a price of 1000 dollars, perhaps a little more in euros, would be asked for the 55-inch version.
