Google Maps is one of the most popular apps in the world, for good reasons. But over time and by accumulating functions, the interface has become heavier. Google has been working for several months on a facade renovation which should not take long.
No one disputes the usefulness of Google Maps. On the other hand, the addition of features ended up making not only users dizzy, but also former designers of the application! It was therefore time for Google to take a closer look, which the search engine announced at the end of March.

True to form, Google is rolling out its new features in waves, and after a first false start in February, in recent days, users have been surprised to see this new interface reappear. We might as well say it right away: this is not a revolution. According to the first images of the Android version shared by 9to5GoogleGoogle wants to put maps back in the spotlight, even in a corner.
This is the case when new information sheets are displayed. Today, they occupy the entire screen (left screenshot above); the new interface on the right leaves a little space for the map, in the background. Which is also reminiscent of Apple Plans.
These sheets still take up a little more space, but it is easier to delete them thanks to the X button on the right, and above all it allows more information to be presented.
The route box now leaves more room for the map at the bottom, it no longer takes up all the space at the top, while the different options (on foot, by bike, by car, etc.) switch to the bottom. We breathe a little better!
This redesign is not yet available to everyone, and for the moment at least, it is limited to the Android version.
