Huawei’s premium smartphones arrive in France without 5G

Efforts yes, but can they even be successful? Just like the Huawei P60 before them, the Pura 70 (the new name of the brand’s range of high-end smartphones) ignores 5G and Google services… without prohibiting itself from exceeding a thousand euros . Presentations.

Everything for the photo

Beautifully presented with an innovative design and, for the Pura 70 Ultra model, a vegan leather back, Huawei’s new range is a real eye-catcher. As is often the case with premium models, Huawei is focusing heavily on photography here. Unsurprisingly, it’s the Pura 70 Ultra that attracts all the attention thanks to a very muscular configuration: 1-inch, 50-megapixel wide-angle sensor with variable aperture (ƒ/1.6-4.0), ultra-large -40 Mpx angle and brightest telephoto lens on the market (ƒ/2.1 for 50 megapixels).

Not to be outdone, the Pura 70 Pro and Pura 70 are still more modest and adopt a slightly smaller main sensor (1/1.31”), but with an even brighter lens (ƒ/1.4-4 ,0). All of this serves a large 6.7-inch (P70, P70 Pro) and 6.8-inch (P70 Ultra) smartphone, whose OLED screen displays 1220p definition at a variable frequency of 120 Hz.

Finally, the three smartphones are equipped with a generous battery of 4,990 mAh, 5,050 mAh and 5,200 mAh, rechargeable up to 100 W for the most advanced model.

Absences that weigh heavily

As we have seen, Huawei’s new smartphones offer heavy photo content. But what about the rest? This is obviously where the problem lies. As for more than four years now, we will not find any trace of Google services or applications on the phone. You will have to go through Huawei’s proprietary App Gallery to hope to find the applications that you use most often. Also, Huawei only promises two major updates of the OS, where Samsung or Google have now gone to seven years.

Finally, and this is the elephant in the room, the Kirin 9010 chip (on which Huawei kept secret until the last moment) is, certainly, a technological feat on the part of the brand, but it comes to us without 5G connectivity, nor wifi 7 (and not even wifi 6e).
