A bug with the iPhone alarm
Several iPhone users seem to have encountered the same bug recently. It is annoying to say the least, although it could also serve as an excuse, since it stops your iPhone from ringing just when your alarm is about to end or your alarm clock needs to take you out of the gentle arms of Morpheus. These are not just testimonies from people who think they have found the ultimate excuse since Apple has officially acknowledged the problem and is currently working on a solution.
A bug in Attention-based functions mode?
According to several testimonies, this bug would disappear if the parameter Attention-Based Functions
is disabled. You will find this option in the Settings
of iOS, then in Accessibility
and to the section Face ID and attention
. Indeed, this function makes it possible to reduce the volume of certain alerts according to Apple, and perhaps even to silence it via this bug and erroneous detection of the user’s face.
It will therefore be necessary wait for yet another update of iOS 17 to be sure to be safe from this nasty bug. Be careful though, many people use their iPhone daily to set up alarms and an alarm clock, including yours truly, without ever having encountered this bug. However, it would only take one time at a particularly critical moment for my confidence in my iPhone to take a big hit. Let’s hope that iOS 18 and other upcoming Apple systems to be announced at WWDC 2024 won’t be riddled with bugsand that they will make us forget those of iOS 17 and macOS Sonoma.
